Graduate Student
One day you wake up and you look at your 31 year old hungover face and you just have to ask “how did I get here again?” I think I’m about half way through my graduate degree of divorcee land. It’s been a pricey course. Here’s a few random thoughts for you that I’ve accumulated.
- I’m not the greatest communicator. I’m not horrible, but not great. Takes practice.
- Practice is so much more important than mastery.
- Exercise is hard
- Budgeting is hard
- Saying no is hard
- Hurting someone is equal parts hard and inevitable.
- Ignoring anything and hoping that it goes away doesn’t work
- Choose your friends and purchases wisely, but don’t beat yourself up over missteps.
- Don’t confuse friends and lovers. You probably will.
- Thoughts you had at 21 are still there at 31. We are who we are.
- Meeting people is easy, just say hi.
- There are no quick fixes
- You are not going to be ok for a while.
- Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries….boundaries, boundaries, boundaries.
- Do buy the sports car, it’s worth it.
- Tune into your own soundtrack…nothing is more powerful than music when it comes to a broken heart.
- You have a history. It’s your story, and you don’t have to hide it. If you hide who you are, then people can never get to know you. It’s ok to be you.
